Henna has made great improvements to my hair. I started using
henna three and half years ago by reading CurlyNikki. I read for myself how beneficial
“real” henna. Some people advised me that henna was bad due to their experience
but further research help me to understand that they experienced a chemical-treated
henna that gives bad results.
Why do I use henna:
I can honestly say that my curl pattern has loosen and I have shinier, smoother, stronger and heavier hair. The biggest difference was when I did not wash-n-go. My hair did not shrink like my first one. If you want your hair tighter again use alma powder. I used to henna once a month but it's very time consuming so now I try to do it once per season.
How do I use henna:
Boil water for 5 minutes and seep Red Zinger tea
until it’s a dark red color. This substitute for green tea or another acid like lemon juice.
While the tea is warm I mix one box of Jamila
henna in a bowl with a plastic spoon. I then wrap it in plastic wrap and place
it on the stove as a double-boil setup to jump start the release process.
The next day 18-24 hours later, I mix EVOO and
honey in the mixture before I apply it to my head. Any left over, I freeze in
the back of the freezer for next time. It has been discussed in many forums how
henna is better after thawing.
Looking at this last pic, I added VO5 conditioner to my hair before I rinse it out. I set for 3 hours doing housework with a baggie on my head. If I need to venture out, then I would place a knit cap on it as well. Sometimes, I speed-up the process by sitting under a hooded dryer.
After use my hair feels "heavy" similar to a protein treatment. The color shows better in the sunlight. I'm not worried about the color.
